BIDDEFORD — Police in Biddeford say they’ve been seeing a rash of fraudulent inspection stickers on older vehicles in the city.

Chief Roger Beaupre says police have come across 31 bogus inspection stickers in April alone.

He says the stickers appear to have been made on high-end copy machines. He says word on the street is they’ve been selling for $50 to $100 each.

Most of the vehicles with the fake stickers have been at least a decade old, leading police to believe that the car owners are resorting to counterfeit stickers to avoid making costly repairs needed to pass the state’s vehicle inspection test.
