LEWISTON — The owner of a Lewiston taxi company that’s been around for nearly 80 years is hanging up his keys and closing down his business.

City Cab is planning to shut down at the end of tonight. Owner Daniel Leonas said the company has been hurt by the economy and competition from nonprofit social service transportation options and public buses.

The Lewiston Sun Journal says City Cab has been collecting fares since 1932 and was the largest cab company in Lewiston, with six cars.
