DOVER-FOXCROFT — Maine State Police say a 20-year-old man who was shot and killed in Dover-Foxcroft knew the man who’s being questioned in the killing.

Police say Ryan Mayo was shot outside his home about 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Steve McCausland of the Maine Public Safety Department says a man who knew Mayo is being questioned in connection with the shooting as investigators seek to determine the circumstances.

The Bangor Daily News quotes neighbors as saying they heard four to six shots in rapid succession, followed by screams.

Police say Mayo’s body was taken early today to the office of the Maine Medical Examiner for an autopsy. The Dover-Foxcroft police and the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Department are assisting in the investigation.
