UNITY — Maine’s environmentally oriented Unity College says it’s going to have its greenest graduation ever, with recycled diplomas, composting of food wastes, and one commencement program for each family and each graduate to save paper.

Unity says it’s not sure whether this afternoon’s graduation will be the greenest in the country. But it says it’ll certainly be the greenest in its 45-year history.

Unity will award 110 bachelor of science degrees. Author and sustainable agriculture activist Gary Nabhan is commencement speaker.

Local and organic foods comprise nearly three quarters of the total food prepared for the day’s events.
