Berlin City Auto Group recently donated $40,276 to a dozen schools across New England, including five in Maine.

Employees of Berlin City presented the donations to school officials across southern Maine on May 3 in honor of National Teacher Day.

The schools selected include Ocean Avenue Elementary School and Lyseth Elementary School in Portland; Montello Elementary School in Lewiston; Lisbon High School and Biddeford High School.

Berlin City raised the funds through its Drive for Education Program, which benefits students in kindergarten through high school.

The schools that participated in the program were asked to submit an essay explaining how they would use a donation of up to $3,500 to enhance their education.

“Schools are in need of support more than ever and we’re thrilled to be able to give back to the communities we serve,” Berlin City Vice President Yegor Malinovskii said in a press release.

Berlin City is again accepting applications from schools. The deadline to apply for a $3,500 donation is Dec. 31.
