PORTLAND – Louie Luchini of Ellsworth and Meredith Freimer of Portland were the first male and female runners to complete the 11th annual Portland Sea Dogs Mother’s Day 5K Road Race this morning.

Luchini, 29, is the course record-holder. He won for the second straight year, and by nearly a minute over runner-up Josh Zolla of Freeport in 14 minutes, 43 seconds.

Freimer, 32, finished in 18:24 to beat women’s runner-up Gretchen Speed by 16 seconds.

Women in the field of 2,877 received pink carnations after the race, proceeds of which go to the Maine Cancer Foundation for breast cancer research. Since the race’s inception, more than $100,000 has been raised for that cause.

In addition to a trophy, Luchini and Freimer each received a pair of 2011 season tickets and a chance to throw out the ceremonial first pitch before a Sea Dogs game.
