WESTBROOK — Artel this morning asked the city of Westbrook to stop Pike Industries from going through with its plan to blast today at the site of its Spring Street quarry.

The blasting for a new access road is scheduled to take place at 1 p.m.

Artel claims that blasting would violate a consent agreement reached by the city, Pike and Idexx Laboratories.

City Administrator Jerre Bryant said city staff believe that Pike’s blasting would comply with the agreement, and that the city doesn’t plan to block Pike from blasting.

Bryant said the city’s attorneys are reviewing all of the consent agreement documents in light of Artel’s complaints.
