AUGUSTA — Maine Insurance Superintendent Mila Kofman will leave her position as of June 1.

Kofman has headed the Maine Bureau of Insurance since March 2008. She says her top priorities have been to increase efficiency, accountability and transparency.

State business regulation Commissioner Anne Head, who announced Kofman’s resignation today, says that during Kofman’s tenure Maine made homeowners’ and auto insurance rates more affordable. State officials also say Maine’s rate review process has become a national model.

Before her state service, Kofman was on the faculty at Georgetown University.
