WASHINGTON, Maine — Police today released the identities of the drivers involved in a fatal head-on crash on Route 17 over the weekend.

Faustina Mitchell, 57, of Waldoboro, was pronounced dead at the scene of Saturday morning crash, Chief Deputy Tim Carroll of the Knox County Sheriff’s Department said in a release.

The second driver, John Fallows, 62, of Hope, was taken by ambulance to Penobscot Bay Medical Center where he was treated and released.

The drivers were alone in their vehicles.

The crash occurred around 9 a.m., near Route 206 when Mitchell, driving a 2002 Ford Focus, tried to pass another vehicle while driving east on Route 17. Mitchell pulled into the path of Fallows’ westbound 2010 Toyota Tundra.

“The two vehicles collided head on,” Carroll said.

The crash was reconstructed by Maine State Police with help from the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office, according to Knox County officials.
