AUGUSTA — The Maine Department of Labor says the state’s preliminary unemployment rate for April was 7.6 percent. That’s unchanged from March and down from 8.2 percent a year ago.
Acting Maine Labor Commissioner Laura Boyett said today that the number of unemployed dropped by 4,100 compared to a year ago and now stands at 52,900.
The Labor Department says Maine’s preliminary figures compare favorably to the New England average of 7.9 percent and the nationwide average of 9 percent. Unemployment rates in the region ranged from 4.9 percent in New Hampshire to 10.9 percent in Rhode Island.
