PORTLAND – Mitch Newlin drove in six runs in a doubleheader Saturday to help Waynflete split with North Yarmouth Academy in Western Maine Conference baseball.

Waynflete (7-2) won the first game 3-2 before the Panthers (7-3) recovered for a 14-8 victory.

In the opener, Newlin drove in the winning run with a single in the sixth inning.

Charlie Laprade of Waynflete struck out five without allowing a walk, and also had four hits, including a double.

Jordan Haskell hit a two-run homer for NYA.

In the second game, NYA scored seven runs in the sixth inning on five hits and three errors. Alan Brown had a two-run single in the inning.

Ryan Salerno had a pair of RBI on three hits and Ben Coleman added two RBI.

Newlin hit two homers and drove in five runs.

MARSHWOOD 4, KENNEBUNK 1: Troy Pappas had a two-run homer and pitched a six-hitter to power the Hawks (8-3) past the Rams (3-9) at Kennebunk.

Pappas struck out three and walked one.

Rob Ecklund drove in Kennebunk’s run.

CAMDEN HILLS 11, MEDOMAK VALLEY 5: Isaac Grindle homered, drove in two runs and scored three to lead the Windjammers (8-2) over the Panthers (6-5) at Rockland.

Adam Carlson had three singles and three runs for Camden Hills.

Kyle Durkee drove in two runs for Medomak.

PORTLAND 12, NOBLE 5: Nick Volger hit a two-run double during a six-run fourth inning as the Bulldogs (5-6) pulled away from the Knights (3-8) at Portland.

Nick Volger finished with two singles, a double and three RBI.

Matt Holliday hit a two-run double as Noble scored four in the fourth to pull within 6-4.

Joe Thyng led the Knights with three singles, an RBI and two runs.

OLD ORCHARD BEACH SWEEPS SACOPEE VALLEY: Jason Dutton had five RBI, including a three-run homer, as the Seagulls (6-6) swept the Hawks (0-13), winning 11-0 in the first game and 7-6 in the second at South Hiram.

In the opener, Ryan Gallant allowed one hit over four innings, striking out five.

In the second game, Shawn McDermott knocked in the winning run with a seventh-inning double. Gallant added a two-run homer and Garrett Hayes had a solo shot.

Jack Reynolds hit an RBI double for Sacopee.

SOUTH PORTLAND 5, SANFORD 1: Jordan Muller and Nick Whitten had RBI singles as the Red Riots (9-3) stopped the Redskins (0-11) at South Portland.

Whitten pitched six innings, giving up three hits and one run with three strikeouts.

Mitch Vezina had an RBI single for Sanford.

WINTHROP 1, HALL-DALE 0: Doyle Connor drove in the run in the eighth inning as Winthrop (5-4) beat Hall-Dale (4-7) at Farmingdale.

Tyler Reeve earned the win, allowing three hits with 12 strikeouts and two walks.

Ben Crocker of Hall-Dale allowed one run on three hits, striking out nine, walking five and hitting two batters.

Reeve also had a pair of hits for Winthrop.

Brad Shepherd had a double, and Crocker and Ezra Jones each had a single for Hall-Dale.

MESSALONSKEE 6, HAMPDEN ACADEMY 5: Gage Landry’s two-run single gave the Eagles (4-8) just enough to beat the Broncos (6-4) at Oakland. Landry drove in three runs on two singles.

CONY 8, BRUNSWICK 5: Corey Lapierre doubled, singled twice and drove in four runs as the Rams (5-6) beat the Dragons (7-5) at Brunswick.

Zach Lachance and Nick Lucas each added two hits and two RBI for Cony, which led 6-0 in the second inning. Lachance started and earned the win.

Tyler Anderson and Adam Viola doubled for Brunswick.

SCARBOROUGH 7, BIDDEFORD 4: Joe Cronin hit a home run and drove in two runs as the Red Storm (9-2) got past the Tigers (7-4) at Biddeford.

Nick Murphy added two RBI for Scarborough.

Ryan Mancini got the win, recording seven strikeouts through five innings, allowing three hits.

Taylor Reuillard hit a two-run homer for Biddeford.

SOFTBALL

SOUTH PORTLAND 5, BIDDEFORD 4: Alexis Bogdanovich hit an RBI single in the 12th inning as the Red Riots (12-0) edged the Tigers (7-4) at Biddeford.

Katlin Norton hit a single and a double with two RBI, and Danielle DiBiase had three singles for South Portland.

Biddeford, paced by Amethyst Hersom with a single, a double and an RBI, took a 4-3 lead when Alex Quigley hit a two-run double in the sixth.

KENNEBUNK 18, PORTLAND 0: Hannah King pitched a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts and no walks as the Rams (9-2) downed the Bulldogs (0-11) in five innings at Portland.

Kelsey Livermore hit a three-run double and Brittany Madore added a two-run double as Kennebunk scored 11 runs in the fifth.

MESSALONSKEE 13, HAMPDEN ACADEMY 1: The Eagles (9-3) scored nine runs in the sixth inning and cruised to a six-inning victory against the Broncos (2-10) at Hampden.

Bri Warren had four singles, and Alei Collier had a double and two singles for Messalonskee. Emily York added a double and a single, and Kylee Knight, Tatiana Vogel and Hannah Jallette each had two singles for the Eagles.

Kathryn Gilio had a single and a double for Hampden.

CONY 20, BRUNSWICK 3: Molly Russell doubled, singled twice and drove in two runs as the Rams (8-3) beat the Dragons (2-9) in five innings at Brunswick.

Emily Soule of Cony struck out seven and walked none.

Laina Younes added three singles and three RBI for Cony, which got three singles from both Nicole Rugan and Suzannah Deeves.

SACOPEE VALLEY SWEEPS OLD ORCHARD BEACH: Shelly Pellegrino had five hits, including a home run, to lead the Hawks (11-3) to 16-3 and 18-2 five-inning victories against Old Orchard Beach (5-7) at South Hiram.

Pellegrino homered and scored three times in the first game in which the Hawks led 13-1 after two innings. In the second game, Pellegrino, Chelsey Burnell and Steph Mullins each drove in two runs.

BOYS’ LACROSSE

SCARBOROUGH 12, GORHAM 1: John Wheeler scored five goals as the Red Storm (9-1) cruised past the Rams (4-5) at Gorham.

John Blaisdell added two goals and two assists, and Andrew Jones chipped in two goals and an assist.

Tyler Rankin scored for Gorham.

Nate Holloran made 17 saves for the Rams.

SOUTH PORTLAND 9, MARSHWOOD 8: Robert Hannigan picked up a loose ball in front and whipped in a bouncing shot with 44 seconds left to lift the Red Riots (6-3) past Marshwood (4-5) at South Portland.

Harrison Keithly led the Riots with four goals and two assists. Thomas Leddy added two goals and two assists. Jeff Hatheway and Andrew Rollins scored three goals each, and Matt Scremin had two for the Mustangs.

LEWISTON 6, BRUNSWICK 1: Curtis Robinson and Brandon Tyner each scored twice as the Blue Devils (9-1) beat Brunswick (5-5) at Lewiston.

Tyner also had an assist. Lewiston goalie Jesse Leeman made 15 saves.

GIRLS’ LACROSSE

FALMOUTH 17, FREEPORT 7: Molly Ryan had five goals and an assist to pace the Yachtsmen (6-4) over the Falcons (5-5) at Freeport.

Laura Fay and Sam Smithwick added three goals each.

Lauren Easler, Eli Pier and Meredith Broderick all had two goals for Freeport.

CAPE ELIZABETH 15, FRYEBURG ACADEMY 5: Talley Perkins had three goals for the Capers (6-3) against the Raiders (0-8) at Fryeburg.

Bella Robinson added two goals for Cape Elizabeth.

Brenna Gerchman scored three goals and Brittany Fox made 23 saves for Fryeburg.
