AUGUSTA — Gov. Paul LePage’s first judicial nomination would put a former state and federal prosecutor on the Maine District Court bench.

Gregory Campbell has served as assistant district attorney for Penobscot and Piscataquis Counties since 1985. Before that he was an assistant attorney general and assistant U.S. attorney. The Bates College and the University of Maine School of Law also served several years in private practice.

Judicial nominees must be reviewed by the Judiciary Committee and confirmed by the full Senate. The committee is likely to hold a hearing on the nomination on June 2.
