NEW GLOUCESTER — A former commander of the Sons of AMVETS in Maine has been charged with stealing $8,900 from the organization.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office arrested Peter Ross Bragdon, 32 of Gray on Sunday on charges of felony theft and he is being held in Cumberland County Jail on $2,500 bail.

Bragdon had been commander of the organization but had his membership revoked. However, his name remained on the group’s bank account. He continued to take money from the account after he was kicked out of the club, the sheriff’s office said.

Bragdon is scheduled to be arraigned in Portland District Court today.
