SANFORD – Abby Rutt singled in the winning run in the seventh inning Wednesday as Scarborough rebounded from a loss to top-ranked South Portland to defeat Sanford 5-4 in a Southern Maine Activities Association softball game.

Rutt finished with four hits, including a double and triple, to drive in three runs for the Red Storm (11-1).

Mo Hannan earned the save, striking out two in a perfect seventh inning. Hannan also had three hits.

Kelsey Doiron scored two runs and had two hits for Sanford (8-6). 

MASSABESIC 7, DEERING 0: Dani Egan pitched a three-hitter with 13 strikeouts and one walk as the Mustangs (4-9) beat the Rams (3-11) at Portland.

Emily Schatz drove in three runs with a single and a triple, and Cassidy Hill singled and doubled to drive in a run.

WELLS 9, FREEPORT 2: Kelsey Bragdon pitched a six-hitter and had an RBI single during a three-run third inning as Wells (8-5) downed the Falcons (4-10) at Freeport.

Wells managed four hits and four walks, but stole 12 bases. 

GEORGES VALLEY 9, ST. DOMINIC 2: Kennadi Grover and Jill Bradbury knocked in two runs each, and Rachel Frye had six strikeouts over five innings as the Buccaneers (11-0) defeated the Saints (8-5) at Thomaston.

Becky Trytek had an RBI triple for St. Dominic. 

CAPE ELIZABETH 14, OLD ORCHARD BEACH 2: Lexie Cantara drove in two runs with a double as the Capers (9-5) downed the Seagulls (6-8) in five innings at Cape Elizabeth.

Ally Boyington of Cape Elizabeth struck out three over four shutout innings and allowed two hits.

SOUTH PORTLAND 19, CHEVERUS 4: Libby Grant doubled home Alexis Bogdanovich and Amanda Linscott, then scored on an error to key a five-run second inning for South Portland (14-0), which earned a five-inning victory against Cheverus (1-11) at Portland.

The inning gave the Red Riots a 6-0 lead. 

WISCASSET 14, BOOTHBAY REGION 3: Bri Gould had three singles and a double to pace a 14-hit offense for Wiscasset (3-11) against the Seahawks (0-12) at Boothbay Harbor. 

SACOPEE VALLEY 15, YORK 4: Liz Moulton had two hits, including an RBI triple, and was the winning pitcher for the Hawks (12-3) against the Wildcats (2-11) at South Hiram.

Justin Ruhlin, McKenzie Ross and Julia Vacchiano also had two hits. Ross and Vacchiano each drove in two runs. 

MEDOMAK VALLEY 12, ROCKLAND 3: Kasey Benner had a pair of triples to lead the Panthers (13-1) over Rockland (3-11) at Waldoboro.

Jenna Tracy added a double and a single to Medomak’s 13-hit offense, and Vanessa Davis and Mallory Conary each had two singles. Danika Gustin and Emma Davis had two singles apiece for the Tigers. 

BONNY EAGLE 14, PORTLAND 4: Jessica Sullivan knocked in four runs on two hits, including a two-run triple, and Lindsey Hawell, Dyana Lambert, and Lindsey Gammon knocked in two runs each to lead the Scots (5-8) past the Bulldogs (0-13) at Standish. 

THORNTON ACADEMY 10, KENNEBUNK 0: Kristen Duross and Megan Agger homered, and Julia Geaumont pitched an eight-strikeout three-hitter as Thornton Academy (11-2) beat the Rams (11-3) at Kennebunk.

Duross’ three-run homer highlighted a five-run fourth inning that stretched a 3-0 lead to 8-0. 

GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 11, POLAND 5: Kellie Sanborn’s two-run double keyed a four-run second inning as the Patriots (7-7) expanded a 2-1 lead to 6-1 against Poland (2-12) at Standish.

Gray-New Gloucester, behind Alicia Valente’s two-run double, had another four-run rally in the fifth to increase the lead to 11-2.

BIDDEFORD 7, MCAULEY 1: Sarah Gilblair finished with five strikeouts and also knocked in a pair of runs to lead the Tigers (10-4) over the Lions (11-3) at Portland.

Selby Bryant, who was 4 for 4, scored for McAuley on a single by Molly Mack. 

WESTBROOK 5, GORHAM 1: Kayla Doiron hit two singles and stole two bases, and Kayla Tibbetts and Allie Lemay combined on a five-hitter for the Blue Blazes (5-9) against the Rams (5-9) at Westbrook.

Tibbetts and Lemay combined for five strikeouts and neither walked a batter. 

MARSHWOOD 10, WINDHAM 9: Ashley Eastman singled, stole second and scored on Nicole Harvey’s two-out single in the eighth inning as Marshwood (6-9) beat the Eagles (2-12) at Windham

Center fielder Kim Hussey preserved the win in the bottom of the inning, throwing out Billie Lamb in a close play as Lamb attempted to score from second on Katelyn Tucker’s two-out single.
