AUGUSTA — There’ll be extra state police troopers on the roads in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont over the Memorial Day weekend looking for drunk and aggressive drivers.
Col. Robert Williams, the chief of the Maine State Police, is urging drivers to avoid drinking and driving and speeding and to use their seat belts.
The additional police patrols will continue through the summer. Officials say the federal Bureau of Highway Safety has funneled federal money to Maine State Police and several local departments for increased speed and drunken-driving enforcement efforts through Labor Day.
New Hampshire State Col. Robert Quinn drivers should take into account higher traffic volumes and leave extra time to reach their destinations.
