AUGUSTA — Most state employees are getting another unpaid day off, giving them an extra-long Memorial Day weekend.

Most state offices are closed on Friday as a cost-saving measure adopted two years ago to help balance the budget. Game wardens, state troopers, rangers and others whose jobs are deemed essential are on duty today, and state parks, historic sites and campgrounds will remain open.

This is the last of 20 state government closure days over the past two years to save money.
