PORTLAND — The Portland Sea Dogs broke out for a seven-run second inning and held on for a 7-5 win Saturday over the Trenton Thunder to split a doubleheader at Hadlock Field.

The victory broke a five-game losing streak, which included a Game 1 loss Saturday.

Will Middlebrooks homered in the second inning of Game 2, and Jon Hee added a three-run double.

Eammon Portice (1-1) earned the win with 3 1/3 innings of relief. He allowed one run on two hits.

The Sea Dogs lost the opener, 8-7, despite two home runs by Ryan Lavarnway.

Lavarnway’s three-run homer in the first inning gave Portland a 3-0 lead, but Stephen Fife (5-3) allowed 11 hits and six runs over 4 2/3 innings. Reliever Seth Garrison struggled in the fifth, giving up two more runs.
