PORTLAND — The driver of a car that crashed on Pope Road this morning is in critical condition at Maine Medical Center.

Patrick J. Thorne, 18, of Standish was driving a Subaru Impreza north on Pope Road when he drifted into the oncoming lane on a curve near Swett Road at 7:15 a.m. The car collided with a southbound Ford Expedition driven by Cynthia Sundquist, 54, of Windham.

Two passengers in the Subaru, Sheldon Lewis, 18, and Andrew Frank, 17, were taken to local hospitals for treatment. Thorne was the most seriously injured and firefighters had to extricate him from the car. A LifeFlight helicopter transported him to Maine Medical Center.

There was no information on the identity or conditions of his passengers.

Sundquist was taken by ambulance to Maine Medical Center where she was listed in fair condition. Her passenger, Nicholas Sundquist, 16, was not injured.

WINDHAM — The driver of a Subaru hatchback was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to Maine Medical Center for serious injuries following a crash on Pope Road in Windham this morning.

The car was headed north at 7 a.m. with three high-school students when it apparently drifted into the oncoming lane on a curve near Swett Road, police said. The car collided with a Ford Expedition in which a mother and her high-school-age son were headed south.

Four people in all were taken to local hospitals for treatment.
