NEW BRITAIN, Conn. — Starter Brett Jacobson led the New Britain Rock Cats to a 2-0 victory against the Portland Sea Dogs in the opener, and the Rock Cats took the second game 5-3 on strong relief by Tony Davis and a three-hit game by Joe Benson at New Britain Stadium.

The Sea Dogs have lost four straight and 9 of 10.

Jacobson (2-0) allowed two hits and three walks in five innings. Reliever Santos Arias allowed a single to Johnathan Hee and a walk to Alex Hassan before getting a double play. Tyler Robertson relieved Arias with Hee on third and struck out Chih-Hsien Chiang to end the inning.

Robinson then pitched a 1-2-3 seventh for his sixth save.

Portland had the bases loaded with one out in the first inning, but Tim Federowicz grounded into a double play.

New Britain scored in the first on a double by Evan Bigley, and another in the sixth on a single by Mike Hollimon.

In the second game, the Sea Dogs got to New Britain starter Blake Martin for two runs, five hits and three walks in 2 1/3 innings. Jeremy Hazelbaker scored Jorge Padron on an infield single in the second and Ryan Lavarnway came home on a passed ball in the third.

But the Rock Cats responded each time. Mike Hollimon hit a two-run homer in the second and Chris Parmelee singled home Benson in the third.
