AUGUSTA — Gov. Paul LePage has named a deputy insurance regulator as Maine’s acting insurance superintendent.

Eric Cioppa replaces superintendent Mila Kofman, who recently resigned.

Cioppa now serves as deputy superintendent of the Bureau of Insurance, which ensures insurance companies are financially solvent and are able to pay claims.

Cioppa joined the Bureau of Insurance in 1988.
