The American Red Cross, with support from Maine’s first lady Ann LePage and Gen. Maj. John Libby, is hosting two events Sunday to benefit the Services to Armed Forces program in Maine.

The Armed Forces Run for Community will start with a kid’s fun run at 8:30 a.m. and a 5K run at 9 a.m. starting at 51 Westminster St. in Lewiston. The kid’s fun run is free, but there is a $20 registration fee for the 5K race.

The Armed Forces Walk around Back Cove will kick off around 1 p.m. starting in Payson Park in Portland. Check-in starts at noon and registration is free, but donations will be accepted.

The American Red Cross assists about three military families a day in Maine. These events will help ensure the ability of the organization to continue offering aid to those who have served and their families.
