LIMINGTON — Crews responded to an early morning fire that destroyed an apartment.

The fire at 14 Mountain View Road was reported in a call shortly before 1 a.m. today, according to Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Preble. Two people who were at home in the apartment above a three-car garage got out safely, Preble said.

It took crews from Limington, Limerick, Standish, Baldwin, Cornish and Kezar Falls about one hour to get the fire under control, Preble said, noting that the response from all the departments was to meet the need for tanker trucks in the remote area.

Preble said the fire gutted the apartment, but the garage was still intact. The state Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
