SILAS EASTMAN

Boys’ cross country

Silas Eastman, a sophomore at Fryeburg Academy, capped his undefeated season with a victory in the Class B boys’ state meet, covering the 5-kilometer Belfast course in 16 minutes, 2.44 seconds.

He followed his perfect season with a 20th in the New England championships, the first Maine runner to finish. For all of that, Eastman was named our boys’ cross country MVP.

Abbey Leonardi, a junior, won every Maine race she entered last fall and was the only Maine schoolgirl to break 18 minutes on a 5-kilometer course — a feat she accomplished three times. She also claimed her third straight Class A state title, set a meet record at the Maine Cross Country Festival of Champions, and was chosen as our MVP for girls’ cross country for the third time.
