PORTLAND — A two-masted schooner that ran aground in Portland Harbor is back at its pier after a rising tide floated it free.

The Coast Guard says the 88-foot Wendameen had 23 passengers on board when it ran aground late Saturday afternoon. The passengers were ferried to shore on a Portland fireboat, while the four crew members stayed on board.

Officials say the rising tide allowed the vessel to float free late Saturday night and return to its berth at the Maine State Pier.

Nobody was injured.
