AUGUSTA — Officials are warning of unhealthy air quality conditions along the Maine coast.

The Department of Environmental Protection says elevated ozone concentrations are expected in coastal areas Thursday from Kittery to east of Mount Desert Island, resulting in unhealthy air as temperatures rise during the day.

The National Weather Service says an air quality alert is in effect from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Officials say people in the affected areas are encouraged to reduce strenuous outdoor activities, close windows and circulate indoor air with a fan or air conditioner.
