TD Bank opens ‘green’ branches

TD Bank recently celebrated the opening of its first two “green” retail locations at 878 Stillwater Ave. in Bangor and 1410 Congress St. in Portland. The two new stores have been built using TD Bank’s new green prototype store design standard and will target LEED certification based on their overall environmental performance in five areas: the use of sustainable sites, low water usage, energy efficiency, recycled materials and resource use, and indoor environmental air quality.

New fire training effort at SMCC

Southern Maine Community College of South Portland has joined with fire chiefs across the state to create the Maine Fire Service Institute (MFSI) at the State House Visitors Center in Augusta. The new institute is designed to train firefighters via a virtual academy system based at the Brunswick SMCC campus, with up to five regional sites, to deliver first-responder training throughout the state. Formerly known as Maine Fire Training and Education, the MFSI will continue to be a department of SMCC, which has statewide responsibility for firefighter training and the legislative authority to issue certifications.
