BURLINGTON, Vt. – Abbey Leonardi of Kennebunk set a meet record in the 3,200 meters and Mike Slovenski of Brunswick won the pole vault to lead the Maine contingent at the New England high school track and field championships Saturday.

Leonardi successfully defended her title in the 3,200. Her time of 10 minutes, 19.03 seconds was more than six seconds under the meet record. It also was the fastest time ever by a Maine schoolgirl, seven seconds better than her previous mark.

Slovenski had a season-best clearance of 15 feet, 3 inches in the pole vault.

Peyton Dostie of Bonny Eagle set a personal best while finishing third in the girls’ 300 hurdles (44.67), and Nicole Kirk of Scarborough placed fourth in the 200 (25.49). Michael Burgess of Greely was fifth in the shot put (53-0).
