AUGUSTA — Authorities continue to keep a tight lid on the investigation into the death of David Cox, 46, whose body was found in his Green Street apartment Saturday morning.

“The cause of death was a stab wound to the chest,” William Stokes, chief of the criminal division of the Office of the Maine Attorney General, said Monday morning.

He would not, however, characterize it as a homicide.

“We are not releasing any of the details,” Stokes said. “It is still under investigation. We are still gathering information about him and his family situation.”

Later Monday, Maine State Police spokesman Steven McCausland identified Michael Young, 40, as Cox’s roommate and the person who reported the stabbing. Young was being interviewed by police and was cooperating with them, McCausland said.

Maine State Police are lead investigators and Augusta police are assisting, Stokes said.
