PAWTUCKET, R.I. — Catcher Ryan Lavarnway made the most of his promotion from Double-A Portland on Monday.

He went 2 for 4 with two doubles in his Triple-A debut for the Pawtucket Red Sox, a 4-1 International League loss to the Charlotte Knights.

Lavarnway was promoted when the Boston Red Sox traded PawSox catcher Mike McKenry to the Pittsburgh Pirates for either a player to be named or cash.

The 26-year-old McKenry was hitting .274 with three home runs and 12 RBI at Triple-A Pawtucket.

The Red Sox got him from the Colorado organization on March 29.

Lavarnway, 23, was hitting .284 with 14 home runs and 38 RBI in 55 games for the Sea Dogs.

His home run total was second best in the Eastern League.
