PORTLAND — Portland’s summer outdoor concert series is returning thanks to the efforts of local businesses and organizations, which stepped up to sponsor the series.
Mayor Nicholas M. Mavodones Jr., in a prepared statement, credited the Friends of the Eastern Promenade and businesses such as the Maine Red Claws and Quirk Chevrolet for their sponsorship efforts.
Funding for the Summer in the Park concert series was eliminated after the 2008 season, due to city budget cuts.
Mavodones and students from the East End Community School will gather Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. on the school grounds to celebrate the return of the summer concert series.
Concerts will be held Wednesdays and Thursdays at the Western Promenade Park, at the bandstand in Deering Oaks Park, and at the bandstand in Fort Allen Park on the Eastern Promenade.
