AUGUSTA — The Maine House voted 120-26 today in support of the new two-year budget, sending the bill down the hall to the Senate for evening consideration.

Although the $6 billion budget faces more House and Senate votes, the initial tally indicates strong support for the document. The House spent more than an hour debating amendments, killing all proposed substantial changes.

The budget makes major changes to the state pension system, cuts taxes and limits welfare eligibility.
