STANDISH — Aidan Fitzgerald drove in the only run in the top of the fourth inning as Waterville defeated Greely 1-0 for the Class B baseball state championship at St. Joseph’s College’s Mahaney Diamond.

Waterville starter Tim Locke struck out eight and gave up three hits, and left fielder Kyle Bishop went 2 for 3 for the Purple Panthers (17-2) in a game delayed nearly two hours because of thunderstorms.

Greely (16-4) left four runners on base, including three in scoring position in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.

Greely’s Pete Stauber went 2 for 3. Starting pitcher Matt Leeman struck out five.
