MANCHESTER, N.H. — A hit batsman, New Hampshire’s third of the night, sank the Sea Dogs Friday night.

Portland reliever Caleb Clay hit Adeiny Hechavarria to open the seventh inning. One out later, New Hampshire’s speedy shortstop scored on Anthony Gose’s double to center field to lift the Eastern League-leading Fisher Cats to a 4-3 win in front of 6,813 at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.

“You feel kind of fortunate to be in a game like that when they have five stolen bases,” said Sea Dog Manager Kevin Boles. “They have a lot of weapons. The running game was definitely a factor tonight.”

The Sea Dogs dropped to 25-45 and are 2-6 against New Hampshire this season.

The teams are going to see a lot of each other in the next month. The Sea Dogs play 10 of their next 19 and 13 of their next 30 against the Fisher Cats.

Right-hander Stolmy Pimentel started for Portland and his three-inning stint was his longest since he went five innings on May 27. He had not gone more than two innings in his last three starts.

He allowed three hits and two earned runs, walked two, struck out two and hit two.

“I saw some fastball command,” Boles said. “There were some good things there.”

The Sea Dogs grabbed a 2-0 lead with runs in the first and second, and New Hampshire tied it with runs in the second in third.

Chih-Hsien Chiang singled in Ryan Khoury, who had doubled, for the first-inning run. Jorge Padron’s sacrifice fly to center knocked in Reynaldo Rodgriguez in the second. Rodriguez had doubled to lead off the inning and went to third on Oscar Tejeda’s groundout.

Rodriguez, the designated hitter, had two doubles and extended his hitting streak to seven games.

The Fisher Cats took their first lead in the fifth when Moises Sierra singled in Gose, who had singled and stolen second. Gose had three hits and two stolen bases.

“They’ve got speed pretty much throughout the lineup,” said Khoury. “Any time the other team has speed, it puts a lot of pressure on the defense.”

Portland quickly tied the game again. Tim Federowicz was hit by a pitch to open the sixth, went to third on Rodriguez’s second double and scored when Tejeda grounded out to short.

NOTES: While there was no official announcement, various newspaper reports and sources said Boston Red Sox reliever Bobby Jenks will start tonight against the Fisher Cats and likely pitch one inning. Jenks last pitched for the Red Sox on June 7 and has been sidelined with a strained muscle in his back.
