Brent Marcotte is the new director of communications and team services for the Portland Pirates, succeeding Mark Jeanneret, who held that position as well as doing the radio play-by-play of Pirates games for the past two seasons.

It was unclear Friday night who replaces Jeanneret in the radio booth.

Marcotte, 24, was a media relations assistant with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats baseball team of the Eastern League last summer and formerly a senior intern with the Portland Pirates. He is a 2010 graduate of Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, Ga., where he was a four-year letter winner on the baseball team.

Jeanneret had 12 years of experience announcing games in the Ontario Hockey League before coming to Portland. He also did broadcast work for the Buffalo Sabres where his father, Rick Jeanneret, has been the team’s voice since 1971. The two-year affiliation between the Sabres and the Pirates ended recently.
