MANCHESTER, N.H. — The Portland Sea Dogs hit the century mark in style Friday night.

Chih-Hsien Chiang said his goodbye to Northeast Delta Dental Stadium for a few days with three hits and Alex Wilson picked his eighth victory to lead Portland to an 8-3 triumph against the Eastern Division-leading New Hampshire Fisher Cats.

The Sea Dogs improved to 100-87 all-time against the Fisher Cats with their second win in seven tries here this season.

Chiang, a right fielder, and third baseman Will Middlebrooks will leave the team this morning for Phoenix and Sunday night’s Futures Game.

“They’re both having unbelievable years and we’ll definitely miss them,” said left fielder Alex Hassan, who had a pair of doubles. “But it’s only a couple of days and we’ll be OK. We’ve just got to go out and play hard and see what happens.”

The Sea Dogs, 34-52 overall, and Fisher Cats, 49-36, will be back at it at 7:05 tonight in the second game of the four-game series.

Wilson (8-4) beat Zach Stewart (4-5) of New Hampshire for the second time in six days.

The Sea Dogs pounded Stewart for 10 hits and seven runs in their first four at-bats.

They got leadoff hits in each of the first four innings and were ahead 7-0 by the time New Hampshire batted in the bottom of the fourth.

By then, Jeremy Hazelbaker, Hassan, Chiang and Reynaldo Rodriguez already had a pair of hits each.

“It was good to get a lead early with (Wilson) on the mound,” Hassan said.

“He threw the ball real well. All our pitchers threw the ball well all night.”

Wilson gave up six hits and three runs over his five innings. Left-handers Kyle Fernandes and Cecil Cabral combined for four innings of one-hit relief.

Fernandes gave up the lone hit over his three innings, struck out four and walked one.

Hassan did much of the early damage. His first double knocked in Hazelbaker in the third, and the next scored Jon Hee and Heiker Meneses in the fourth.

The Fisher Cats sliced the lead to 7-3 with a pair of runs in the fourth and another in the fifth off Wilson.

New Hampshire, down 8-3 after Chiang’s RBI double in the top of the sixth, threatened again in the bottom of the inning.

Fernandes, on in relief of Wilson, allowed a single and a walk and hit a batter, but then struck out Anthony Gose with the bases loaded and two outs to end the inning.

The Sea Dogs outhit the Fisher Cats 12-7 in the game.

“We’ve been swinging the bats well and carried the momentum over to this series,” said Hassan, who improved his batting average to .316 for the season for Portland.

NOTES

Chiang and Middlebrooks leave this morning for the XM Futures Game, which will be on ESPN2. “It’s awesome,” Middlebrooks said. “I’ve watched it on TV the past couple years. I didn’t expect to be chosen. It’s a huge honor.” Chiang and Middlebrooks are due back here for Wednesday’s Eastern League All-Star game. New Hampshire starting right-handed pitcher Henderson Alvarez and Manager Sal Fasano also are headed to Phoenix and the Futures Game. Fasano will be a coach with the World team.
