BANGOR — The Bangor City Council has approved an amended $59 million contract for a new arena and convention center in the Maine city.

The new center will replace the Bangor Auditorium.

On Monday, councilors voted 8-0 in favor of the amendment to the contract with Cianbro Corp.

Construction on the 5,800-seat arena is due to be completed by late 2013.

The Bangor Daily News says earlier cost estimates for the project pegged the cost of the arena at around $65 million.
