A Casco man has been arrested in Michigan for sex crimes that allegedly occurred in Maine.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office says that Antonio Jackson, 37, was charged with three counts of gross sexual assault and five counts of unlawful sexual contact.

Jackson’s whereabouts weren’t known until late Thursday night, when he turned himself into detectives in Muskegon, Mich. He’s being held in Michigan and will be extradited to Maine.

The sheriff’s office said, when the allegations against Jackson surfaced, he was traveling with his family in Costa Rica and Nicaragua, where they were working as missionaries at orphanages. The rest of his family then returned to the United States, leaving Jackson behind. He was sent back to the United States after allegedly assaulting a medical student at an orphanage in Nicaragua, according to the sheriff’s office.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office is continuing an investigation with the Muskegon Police Department in Michigan and the Broward County Sheriff’s Office in Florida.
