SOUTH PORTLAND — State police say a car is a total loss after it caught fire earlier this morning.

Officials responded to the call just before 10 a.m. near mile marker 45 southbound on Interstate 95. State police say the driver felt the 2001 Ford Focus accelerate, then start to die. The driver pulled over and the car caught fire. The driver was the only one in the car and no one was injured.

State police say traffic was narrowed down to one lane while they cleared the scene. There is no determined cause for the fire at this point.
