CAPE ELIZABETH — Sheri Piers of Falmouth overcame the humidity and difficult running
conditions to win her second Maine women’s championship in the 14th TD
Bank Beach to Beacon 10k Saturday.

Piers, who also won in 2009, finished in 35 minutes and 11.2 seconds,
much slower than she hoped.

Erica Jesseman of Scarborough was second among Maine women, in 35:37.6.
She passed out after crossing the finish line and needed medical
attention, though she was fine afterward.

“We were all huffing and puffing out there,” said Piers.
