Portland High School athletics will begin preseason practices on Monday, Aug. 15. The schedules are as follows: football, 8 a.m., Fitzpatrick Stadium; girls’ soccer, 10:30 a.m., Fitzpatrick Stadium; field hockey, 8 a.m., Deering Oaks baseball field; cross country 8:30 a.m., Fitzpatrick Stadium; boys’ soccer, 12:30 p.m., Fitzpatrick Stadium; coed golf (meeting), 9 a.m., PHS Alumni Hall; cheerleading, 3:30 p.m., Fitzpatrick Stadium.

 

The 30th annual Pete Debevoise Memorial Tennis Tournament will be held at the South Portland High School courts on Saturday and Sunday. Competition will be held in men’s open singles and doubles, women’s open singles, as well as in mixed doubles. Players interested in entering the tournament should contact tournament director Don Atkinson at datkinso@maine.rr.com or 712-3956 prior to the entry deadline on Thursday at 9 p.m.

 

Registration is still open for the 20th annual Maine State Triathlon and the fourth annual Maine State Kids’ Triathlon in Bethel. The event will be held at 9 a.m. Sunday, with the kids’ event being held at 3 p.m. Saturday. Entries for the Maine State Triathlon will be accepted until Saturday at the Bethel Area Chamber of Commerce or by calling 824-2282. There is no day-of-the-race registration. The race fee is $79 for individuals and $125 for teams.
