N. Maine border crossing to close Aug. 20

VAN BUREN  — The U.S. border station in Van Buren will be temporarily closed to all traffic for part of a day this month due to construction near the site.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection says the port of entry in the northern Maine town will be closed on Aug. 20 from 7 a.m. to noon. As part of the new port construction, a nearby train trestle will be removed and the road will be closed during that time.

All traffic, passenger cars, commercial trucks and pedestrians, must use alternate ports of entry during these hours. The Hamlin port of entry is 10 miles southeast and the Madawaska port of entry is 24 miles northwest.
