AUGUSTA — An anti-casino group is asking Maine’s secretary of state to change the wording of a gambling referendum question on November’s ballot.

The question now asks voters if they favor allowing a slot machine facility at harness racing tracks in Biddeford and Washington County.

CasinosNo! Executive Director Dennis Bailey says the referendum would allow Scarborough Downs race track to build a slot machine casino anywhere within 25 miles of its existing track in Scarborough, and that it wouldn’t have to be in Biddeford.

He says the question should ask if voters want to allow the facilities within 25 miles of an existing track in Scarborough, and in Washington County.

The developers of the proposed facility say the intent is to locate it in Biddeford.
