PORTLAND — U.S. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar is coming to Maine to see work being done at the University of Maine at Orono to develop offshore wind energy technology.

Sen. Susan Collins announced today that Salazar will visit the university’s Advanced Structures and Composites Center on Aug. 18. The center is developing technology related to offshore, deep-water wind power.

Collins says she and Salazar will also visit L.L. Bean headquarters in Freeport to discuss outdoor recreation and conservation initiatives that provide economic development and job creation.

Salazar visited Maine in 2009, when he toured Acadia National Park.
