AUGUSTA – In honor of former House Speaker and Secretary of State Dan Gwadosky, Gov. Paul LePage has directed that U.S. and state flags be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset today in Gwadosky’s hometown of Fairfield, and in Augusta.

Gwadosky, 57, of Augusta, died Wednesday from pancreatic cancer. A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. today in the Augusta Civic Center’s North Wing.

Gwadosky represented Fairfield in the Maine House of Representatives from 1979 to 1996. He was first elected when he was 23.

He was speaker of the House from 1994 to 1996 and secretary of state from 1997 until 2005.
