PORTLAND — A series of highway ramp closures is set to begin Sunday as part of work on Interstate 295.

The ramp closures should be finished by early Friday morning, weather permitting, according to the Maine Department of Transportation. Five closures are planned in Portland and two are planned in Freeport. The closures begin at 7 p.m. and end at 6 a.m.

On Sunday, closures are planned for the Exit 1 southbound off-ramp, the Exit 6A southbound on-ramp and the Exit 20 northbound on-ramp.

On Monday, closures are planed for the Exit 2 southbound off-ramp, the Exit 5A southbound off-ramp, the Exit 5B southbound on-ramp from Park Avenue, the Exit 5A southbound on-ramp from the Fore River Parkway, the Exit 20 northbound on-ramp and the Exit 22 northbound off-ramp.

On Tuesday, closure are planned for the Exit 22 northbound on- and off-ramps.

On Wednesday, a closure is planned for the Exit 22 northbound on-ramp.

On Thursday, a closure is planned for the Exit 22 northbound off-ramp.

The work is weather-dependent, so the schedule will shift to the next available evening when the weather is too wet. No construction work will take place between 6 a.m. Aug. 26 and 8 p.m. Aug. 29 due to the traffic expected for the Great State of Maine Air Show at the Brunswick Executive Airport.
