KITTERY — A marina owner is calling on the states of Maine and New Hampshire to enforce boat speed limit laws after a “mini-tsunami” from two passing motor yachts damaged at least nine vessels at his marina.

Darren LaPierre of Badger’s Island Marina, East and West, in Kittery says one boat was thrown through the air in the Friday incident “like a projectile” into the hull of another one.

He says the wakes were left by a pair of large yachts, which motored through the area without slowing down.

Geno Marconi of the Port of New Hampshire tells the Portsmouth Herald he wasn’t aware of the Kittery incident, but he says the Army Corps of Engineers has jurisdiction.

He says the speed issue has been raised for years.
