LEBANON — More than 600 homes in Lebanon lost electrical power tonight after a sports utility vehicle hit a telephone pole, snapping it in half.
Central Maine Power crews cut power to the area for about two hours while the pole was repaired.
State Trooper Matt Williams said a Mazda Tribute SUV operated by a 16-year-old boy from Sanford went off Route 202, near Bowsers Bedroom Animal Center, after the boy’s prescription eyeglasses fell onto his lap. Williams said the boy, who was alone in the vehicle, cannot see without his glasses.
The boy was wearing a seat belt and his airbags deployed. He did not have to be hospitalized.
The accident took place at 5:20 p.m. Power was restored at 7:38 p.m.
