AUGUSTA — Gov. Paul LePage says he’s canceling plans to participate in a trade mission in November to Chile and Brazil.

LePage said today he decided to forgo the trip due to budget priorities involving preparation for the upcoming Legislative session.

The governor says the supplemental budget process will be a very challenging exercise and it’s important that he attend to those matters here in Maine. He will also be involved in a new zero-based budgeting process.

The Trade Mission, which is coordinated by the Maine International Trade Center, is scheduled for Nov. 12-19 with visits to São Paulo, Brazil, and Santiago, Chile.

Businesses participating in the mission pay all expenses. Businesses will visit private companies, meet with Chilean and Brazilian leaders, and be matched with potential business partners.
