AUGUSTA — The utility covering most of Maine says it’s completing the job of restoring power to the customers who were left in the dark by Tropical Storm Irene.

Central Maine Power Co. says 700 customers were without power as of this morning. That’s down from the nearly 280,000 customers who lost power at one time or another as a result of the storm.

CMP says it set a goal of restoring power across its system by Thursday night.

The remaining outages are among scattered homes and seasonal camps in rural parts of Cumberland, Oxford and York counties. The company says it will complete restoration in those areas later today.
