BATH — A 33-year-old woman was hospitalized this evening after jumping off the Sagadahoc Bridge into the Kennebec River.

Security officers from Bath Iron Works, who were in a patrol boat, saw the woman jump from the bridge and pulled her from the water, according to a press release from the Bath Police Department.

The woman, who was conscious, was taken to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick.

Bath police would not release the woman’s name and didn’t know the extent of her injuries.

About 6:20 p.m., a passer-by reported to police that a woman was standing over the rail of the bridge connecting Bath and Woolwich, according to the press release. She jumped just before officers arrived at the scene.

In addition to Bath Iron Works security and Bath police, the Sagadahoc Sheriff’s Department and the Bath Fire Department responded.
